Allan “Ray” Ashford
Ray Ashford passed away peacefully on Sunday June 14th, 2026, leaving behind a life defined by faith, music, hard work and a deep love for his family and community.
Ray graduated from Ukiah High School in 1969. On February 13th, 1982, he married Michele Yates and together they built a life and raised a family, creating many memories that will be treasured by those who knew and loved him.
Ray became a certified HVAC technician and later established Ashford Heating and Cooling, in Ukiah. He took great pride in his work and earned the respect of his customers and friends through his honesty, skill and dedication to serving the community. Ray, a talented drummer, played with many bands, including, the Mendocino College Jazz Band, First Baptist Church Worship Team and the band, The Felt Tips. Beyond his work and music, Ray loved to fish and was a devoted San Francisco Giants Fan, who looked forward to every baseball season. Those who knew him will remember his steady spirit, his love of music and the pride he took in both his family and his work.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Ashford, his beloved son, Travis Ashford and his uncle, Ken Kunzler. He is survived by his beloved wife, Michele Ashford, his children, Toni, Sammy, Cathleen, Willie, Justin, and his grandson Travis Ashford II as well as his brother, Glen Ashford, his sisters, Gayle Simpson and Carol Notaro and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory for years to come.
Though the drums are now silent, the rhythm of Ray’s life continues through the people he loved, the music he shared, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at The First Baptist Church, 302 W. Henry St. Ukiah, on Saturday, June 27th at 2:00 p.m.
