Margaret Ann Ware Angell, 84, died in her sleep at home on Wednesday morning, December 16, 2009 after a short battle with cancer.

Margaret was born in Grass Creek, Indiana on April 29, 1925 and has been a resident of Ukiah for the last 53 years. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with degrees in Political Science, Psychology and Public Administration in 1949. While a student, she met her future husband, Vincent H. Angell, who was a student at U.C.S.F. School of Pharmacy. They remained life-long Cal Bear fans!

Margaret Angell is survived by her sister, Mary Ware Dawson (Ft Belvoir, VA), her daughters, Cathy Angell Sohn (Voorhees, NJ), Sue Angell (Lake Forest, CA), and Elizabeth Angell (Sacramento, CA) and her son, Jim Angell (Janesville, CA); her grandchildren, Karen and Jenny Sohn, Danny, Katie and Timmy Kastelic; son-in-law, John Sohn and daughter-in-law, Lisa Angell.

Margaret will be remembered as a loving and proud Mother and Grandmother, her devotion to her faith, a strong commitment to education, family holiday dinners at her home, and a love of travel. She was a very active lifetime member and past president (1980-81) of the Ukiah branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), a substitute teacher for Pomolita Junior High and Ukiah High Schools, an avid pilot and volunteer for search and rescue operations, a long serving member of the Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council, a member of Plowshares, the Mendocino County Grand Jury, and the Ukiah Chamber of Commerce.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church for 53 years and was a committed volunteer for the St. Mary’s Mardi Gras celebrations and at the Ukiah Public Library.

Alongside her husband, Vince, she supported the values and goals of Rotary, the University of California, San Francisco, School of Pharmacy, and the organizations in which her children were active: Ukiah Dolphins Swim Club, Campfire Girls, Boy Scouts of America, and the Ukiah High School Marching Band.

Viewing will begin at 7pm on Monday, December 21, 2009 at Eversole Mortuary, followed at 7:30 pm by the saying of the Rosary led by Father Raul Lemus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 11:00 am at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Ukiah. The Ukiah Cemetery will be the place of burial immediately following the Mass.
