Obituary:
Melvin “Lope” Antone, died in San Francisco Thursday February 18, 2010. Born in Healdsburg, Lope was 80 years old. He was a resident for 38 years. He worked as a farm laborer, was an avid fisherman and hunter. Melvin was a very patriotic man and served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star. He had a distinct voice that came clear across the room. He was able to make friends with strangers he met. He was very charismatic within the Indian community. He was the rock of our family. Whether people disagreed with him or not, he left them with a lasting impression. One of his favorite quotes was “Mark my words”.
Lope is survived by his wife of 53 years Juanita Antone of Hopland, daughters Deanna Lozinto, Debra Antone, Isabel Antone, Muriel Antone, Alicia Antone, Patricia Garcia, son Steven Antone, brother Richard Antone, grandchildren Michelle Lozinto, Sesario Rios IV, Carla Antone, Javier Garcia, David Garcia, Silvina Antone, Velen Torres, Chrissy Torres, Anna Torres, Ausevia Garcia, Aaron Ball, Francis Macias, Angelina Jimenez, Anthony Macias, Gonzalo Garcia, Ortensia Garcia and Rudy Rey. Melvin is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his grandchildren Michael Langley, Rosanna Torres, sisters Maggie Luff, Effie Ramirez, Bertha Antone, Daisy Smith, Faye Pinola and parents David Antone and Stella Pinoli.
Visitation will be held at The Eversole Mortuary on Wednesday February 24, 2010 starting at noon with a Rosary beginning at 7 pm. Funeral Service will be on Thursday February 25, 2010 beginning at 2 pm at The Eversole Mortuary
