Obituary:
Russell Irvin Ball, age 73, of Ukiah, went to be with the Lord on October 24, 2016.
Born in Talmage, California, on February 5, 1943, Russ lived in the Ukiah area for the past 30 years. He is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Mary Ball of Ukiah; his son Martin Ball (wife Melody) of Ukiah; daughter Donneal Compean (husband Tony) of Willits; grandchildren Tyler, Sierra, and Lily; sisters Nancy Mantel (Fort Bragg) and Carol Larson (Harbor, Oregon), and numerous nephews and nieces.
Russ served in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1986 after 20 years. His service took him to many countries including Okinawa and Germany, and numerous states. He worked several years after Army retirement as an auto mechanic.
Russ was a true outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, and camping with family and friends. He had a passion and skill for woodwork and “tinkering” in his workshop, and could build or fix just about anything. He enjoyed being involved with his church, and “Uncle Russ” could always be counted on to help wherever needed. He touched many lives and will always be deeply loved.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Way Church, 3601 Tollini Lane, Ukiah, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. Memorial donations in Russ’s honor may be made to Calvary Way Church.
