Obituary:
Donna Jean Foreman Cannon was born May 4, 1939 in Bloomfield Indiana. She died of natural causes October 22, 2016 at home in Redwood Valley, California with her family by her side. She is survived by her husband Marvin “Scotty” Cannon, sister Marsha Foreman Cannon, brothers Richard and Brian Foreman.
Jean graduated from high school in Washington IN, attended college in Bakersfield, CA, two years, and graduated from Ohio Christian College with a Bachelor’s degree in the early 1970s.
Jean joined the Air Force in 1959 where she met her husband Scotty and married September 2, 1960 in Wichita Falls TX,
Jean and Scotty owned The Book Review bookstore in Ukiah from 1964 to 1969. She worked as office Manager/Bookkeeper over the years for Ukiah Daily Journal, Cox Motors and Ukiah Dodge to name a few.
Jean became a certified Message Therapist so she could help her mother, Lillian May, and her step-father, Byron “Jack” May, as they faced health issues. Both pre-deceased Jean.
Jean was a woman with many talents and a big heart. She was passionate about conditions for women and children in the workplace and home.
She was a member of Ukiah Business and Professional Women. (served as President multiple times and received several honors and recognition for her work with the women - one at state level) Jean also served in National Organization for Women: American Association of University Woman; Ukiah Area Republican Women.
A stickler for detail, Jean's presence at a meeting ensured that Roberts Rules of Order were followed.
She mentored people all her adult life, sharing her life lessons with them which help guide them through many obstacles and challenges, doing it all with patience and love.
Jean loved to read and her husband is quick to quip, “If there was a choice between a book or food, she’d always choose a book.”
She also enjoyed playing dominoes with friends, especially “Turkey Track.”
At Jean's request, there will be no services. Inurnment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity benefiting women and/or children.

My Friend, Jean Cannon
Jean was a kind and gentle soul.
I met Jean in the early 1990's through the Ukiah BPW organization in Ukiah, CA.
I was new to Ukiah and she made me feel welcomed and was a mentor to me.
She shared her knowledge and passions about women in history, women's rights and her training as a REIKI Practitioner/Instructor. I was fortunate enough to be a recipient of a few of her REIKI sessions. Wonderful!
I also remember how Jean loved to sew and I have one of her creations. It is a lavender/white Easter bunny with floppy ears. I will always treasure this.
Rest in Peace dear friend.

Jean did so many things, and did them well. And you are familiar with her achievements so I tried to think of something different.

Jean loved books. She told me one time that even as a small child, before she could really read, she loved books and would play with them, touch them, pat them, but never harm the books. She was allowed to play with grown-up books and never damaged them.
Just one little side of a wonderful woman.

I am so sorry to hear about Jean. Jean and Scotty were wonderful “grandparents” to my kids, they gave the kids thoughtful things when they were little, always remembered their birthdays, always remembered and asked about them. One Christmas when Sean was in elementary school they gave him a small desk and a computer that was just right for him. Jean and Scotty were kind, generous and thoughtful family to kids who did not have that kind of family around or close by.

Jean and Scotty were the first visitors when Sarah was born. I think Jean was the first person to hold Sarah who was not me or a nurse. Jean was a most thoughtful and considerate person, helping out others when she could. Jean was a kind, giving “grandma” to other girls, like the one with a single mom who became a competitive skater and flourished under Jean’s attention and care.

Jean will be missed, her love will be missed.

Penning a last letter about a long-time friend isn’t easy. There is no way to capture all she has meant to the world and to me and mine. Her passion for the “underdog” was legendary and she worked hard to help others understand the importance of the rights for all people and how important it is to protect and help children, and women. Jean’s passing is leaving a huge hole in the hearts of many – she will be dearly missed.
