David Charles McAsey

David Charles McAsey, 64, passed away unexpectedly on September 23, 2025.

David “Dave” was born on July 12, 1961, in Burlingame to James and Jacqueline McAsey. One of two children, he grew up with a strong sense of family, a tireless work ethic, and a love for fun in the outdoors. At the age of nine, his family moved to Potter Valley, where they built their forever home and laid down roots. Dave cherished country life, creating lasting memories while attending Potter Valley High School and playing Bearcat football. After completing the welding program at Yuba City College, he returned to his hometown, where he would spend the rest of his life.

A dedicated and hardworking man, Dave retired after 32 years as a Redi-Mix driver with the Teamsters union before spending nearly 12 more years as an operator with the Mendocino County Department of Transportation.

Dave was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. Known for his kind heart and generous spirit, he found his greatest joy in being with family and friends. He was proud of all of his children. He was also proud of his woodcutting; he was one of the Northern California woodcutting champions for many consecutive years - he loved competing with his friends. He enjoyed the outdoors — whether hunting, fishing, camping, or sitting around a campfire sharing stories and planning the next adventure. He also enjoyed playing poker with friends and cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Karri McAsey; his children, Kristina Lewis (Stephen), Gary McAsey (Shelly), and Hannah Seckora (Colter); his parents, James and Jacqueline McAsey; and his brother, Danny McAsey (Lory). He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren and an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who were like family, all who will miss him deeply.

Dave’s sudden passing has left a profound void in the lives of all who knew him as “one of the good ones.” His close-knit community has surrounded his family with love, comfort, and care. He will be remembered for his patience, humor, easygoing spirit, and unwavering devotion to those around him. To know Dave was to feel welcomed, supported, and uplifted—he was truly a man who made life better just by being in it.

A celebration of life to honor his memory will take place in the spring of 2026. Information about the service will be shared when available.
