Delores I Cuneo

Delores Cuneo, nee Coon, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on November 7th in Calistoga surrounded by her family.

Delores was born on October 11, 1932, in Oto, Iowa to Vernie and Sofia Coon. Vernie worked for the railroad and when Delores was six years old, the family moved west to Geyserville, California.

Delores grew up picking prunes, playing sports and swimming in the Russian River, and after graduating from Geyserville High School in 1950, Delores attended business college where she studied bookkeeping and accounting. Upon completion of her studies, she took a job with Lampson Ford. It was at Lampson that she met Tony Cuneo who she married on September 15, 1956.

Delores and Tony lived in the same house on Clovercrest Drive in Cloverdale for nearly 60 years. They were entrepreneurial spirited, and after selling his logging trucks, the couple opened Deltone Lanes, an eight-lane bowling alley located at the south end of downtown Cloverdale. They operated the bowling alley until the early 70s, eventually renaming it Cloverdale Bowl. During that time, Delores travelled across the country bowling on womens’ teams sponsored by Cloverdale Bowl. Many of Delores’ closest friends were from her years at the bowling alley.

Delores and Tony also operated the family farm on River Road in Cloverdale. Delores was the chief tractor driver during harvest and managed all the bookkeeping for their businesses as well as the water company on Clovercrest Drive. Delores also worked for local CPA Garry Witty many years, where she provided bookkeeping services for several local businesses.

In retirement, Delores and Tony enjoyed traveling in their motorhome to places far and near — Alaska and Fort Bragg were some of their favorite trips. They also enjoyed watching sports, particularly when their grandchildren played and never missed a game, home or away.

Delores was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband Anthony Cuneo in 2010. She is survived by daughter Toni Hunt (Marty Hunt) of Calistoga and son Mark Cuneo (Felicia Cuneo) of Playa Del Rey and granddaughters Lauren and Megan Hunt and Rachel Cuneo and grandson Sean Cuneo.

Delores will be forever remembered for her home-baked pies and cookies, playing cards with family and friends, and early morning phone calls. At her request, no services will be held.
