Delores Yvonne Dooley

Longtime Potter Valley resident Delores Yvonne Egli Dooley died surrounded by family on Friday, June 3rd. She had been a resident of the area for seventy-two years. She was eighty-six years old.

Born in McMinnville, Oregon on February 15, 1936, Delores came to Potter Valley in 1950 with her parents, Daniel and Ruth Egli, from the Willamette Valley area of Oregon. She was the oldest of four children: after her but preceding her in death was her brother, Edward Egli. Surviving her are her brother Arnold Egli of Roseburg, Oregon, and her sister, Ida Egli, of Santa Rosa.

After graduating Potter Valley High School, Delores worked for Pacific Bell Telephone Company as an operator, retiring her position there in 1985. On October 4, 1957, in Potter Valley, Delores married Jackie Lee Dooley. They were married fifty-seven years. He preceded her in death in 2014. Delores is survived by their five daughters: Tonya Still, Nevada; Denise Rakes, (Frank), Redwood Valley; Teresa Sasse (Scott), Canby, Oregon; Debbie Summit (Don), Redwood Valley; and Tracy Burris, Ukiah. Additional survivors include twelve grandchildren: Mark and Nikki Smith, Sara Still, Tony and Travis Rakes, Dr. Courtney Miller, Emily and Garrett Sasse, Josh Summit, Kelsey Weir, and Macee Bates. Will Summit, a grandson, preceded Delores in death in 1985. As well, ten great-grandchildren survive.

Delores always enjoyed her time with friends and close relatives, both in Mendocino County and in Oregon. They valued her warm, generous heart and her superb cooking talents. Among these friends are longtime friends Necia Liles, Warren Bilstein, and Paul Poulos, her sister-in-law Louise (Glenn) Shirek, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Delores and Jack were involved during their retirement years with the Ukiah Elks Lodge, Delores being honored once as Elk of the Year. She and Jack enjoyed many RV outings with the Elks Wapitis Travel Group. She was also an avid gardener and canner, though her main focus was ever and always her large close family.

Interment will be private at the Potter Valley cemetery. A public celebration of Delores Dooley’s long, rich life will take place at the Elks Lodge just off of Talmage Road on July 30th at 3:00 PM.
