John Frassinello - Born December 28, 1912 in San Francisco, California. John passed away peacefully on April 5, 2010 at the age of 97. When John was five years old his family moved to a small cottage at the intersection of Mason and Perkins Streets in Ukiah. After two years the family moved to a small grape farm on Signal Ridge Road between Philo and Greenwood. He returned to Ukiah to attend 8th grade and part of his 9th grade year at Ukiah High School. In the Middle of his 9th grade year John left school to help support his family. From 1929 – 1936 John pruned grapes, worked in local wineries, and was a grocer for Wildberger’s Market. He met and fell in love with Angela Terranova through matchmaking efforts of his sister, Virginia; they were married in 1937 at Saint Peter and Paul’s Church in San Francisco. John delivered Best Foods Products and Old Home Bread until 1945 when he opened Johnnie’s Food Store, a Ukiah landmark business for nearly three decades. John was a proud member of the Ukiah Host Lion’s Club for 65 years.
John loved his family, his garden, and hunting and fishing trips. He brightened the days of everyone who knew him. He was the devoted father of Sister Ann Providence of San Francisco, Bob Frassinello and his wife Donna, Cherished grandfather of Gena and Gabriel Biello of Portland, Oregon, & Annalisa Frassinello. John was preceded in death by Angela, his wife of 66 years, his sisters: Josie, Jenny, Victoria, Virginia and brothers Joe, Bill and Frank.
