Guillermo Beltran Zazueta Sr.

Guillermo Beltran Zazueta, “Don Memo”, a beloved member of the Ukiah, CA community and a dedicated local business owner, passed away on May 25, 2023. He was born on March 18, 1947, in Amatan, Sinaloa, Mexico, to Gustavo and Rosario Zazueta. Guillermo was 76 years old at the time of his passing.

After immigrating to the United States in 1967 at the age of 20, Guillermo became a longstanding resident of the Ukiah area, having lived there for nearly 60 years.  He was deeply rooted in the community and made a lasting impact on those around him.

On February 15, 1969, Guillermo married Lydia Zazueta Salgado. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Guillermo and Lydia shared a strong bond that endured throughout their 54 years of marriage. 

After working in local agriculture, Guillermo began working in the local lumber mills including Masonite and Louisiana Pacific (LP). After working in the mills, Guillermo and Lydia decided to open up Memo’s Mexican Deli in 1991, which was one of the first Mexican style grocery stores in the area serving fresh tortillas and pan dulce daily. A few years later, he decided to go completely on his own and began a delivery service of Mexican products. He served mostly Mexican customers who lived in labor camps, apartment complexes and mobile home parks in the Ukiah Valley. He officially retired in 2009. He took great pride in his work and his contributions to the community. His dedication and hard work served as an inspiration to his family, and hundreds of former customers. He became affectionately known as Don Memo. 

Guillermo found immense joy in his role as a father. He is survived by his 4 children: Miguel Zazueta, Guillermo Zazueta, Jr. (Sofia), Yareli Macias Zazueta and Omar Zazueta (Belinda). He was a pillar of support and guidance to his children, always encouraging them to pursue their dreams, instilling in them his incredible work ethic and providing unwavering love and support.

In addition to his children, Guillermo, or Tata as he was known to them,  leaves behind a legacy through his 13 grandchildren: Ayled, Adryan, Omar, Sebastian, Benjamin, Giancarlo, Guillermo, Evan, Camila, Giamani, Maxim, Ezequiel, and Joaquin.  His love and affection for his grandchildren were evident in the special bond he shared with each of them. 

Guillermo was also a beloved brother to his 16 siblings Rosalva, Graciela, Emma, Alicia, Guadalupe, Loreto, Delia, Patricia, Gustavo, Ernesto, Emilio, Humberto, Rosendo, Mario, Alejandro, Alberto, and Manuel. His brothers and sisters were not only his family but also his lifelong friends, providing support and companionship throughout his life's journey.

Guillermo will be remembered for his kind and generous spirit, and his dedication to his family and community.  He was the first of his immediate family to have left Mexico and to have settled in the Ukiah area. He was well known for helping so many other family members who took the journey from the rural ranches in Sinaloa to Mendocino County. The Zazueta family now has hundreds of family members living in Lake and Mendocino County.  He loved traveling back to Mexico to visit family, and friends. Guillermo enjoyed gardening, bbqing for his family, especially his grandkids, and being handy around the house. In recent years, he had become quite the soccer fanatic and could regularly be found supporting Mendocino College Soccer Academy, and Ukiah High Soccer, where he cheered on his grandkids. He had a warm smile and a caring nature that touched the lives of everyone he met. His legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

On Wednesday, May 31 at 2pm there will be a viewing and Rosary (5pm) Eversole Mortuary in Ukiah.  A funeral service to honor and celebrate Guillermo Beltran Zazueta's life will be held on Thursday, June 1 at 1pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the burial to follow at the Ukiah Cemetery.  Friends, family, and community members are invited to join in remembering a remarkable individual who left an indelible mark on the lives of those around him. A reception at the Elks Lodge of Ukiah ( 1200 Hastings Rd, Ukiah, CA 95482) will follow the burial.

Guillermo Beltrán Zazueta, "Don Memo", un querido miembro de la comunidad de Ukiah, CA y un dedicado dueño de negocio local, falleció el 25 de mayo de 2023. Nació el 18 de marzo de 1947 en Amatán, Sinaloa, México, hijo de Gustavo y Rosario Zazueta. Guillermo tenía 76 años al momento de su fallecimiento.

Después de emigrar a Estados Unidos en 1967 a la edad de 20 años, Guillermo se convirtió en un residente del área de Ukiah, habiendo vivido allí durante casi 60 años. Estaba profundamente arraigado en la comunidad y dejó una huella duradera en aquellos que lo rodeaban.

El 15 de febrero de 1969, Guillermo contrajo matrimonio con Lydia Zazueta Salgado. Juntos, construyeron una vida hermosa llena de amor, risas y recuerdos entrañables. Guillermo y Lydia compartieron un fuerte vínculo que duró sus 54 años de matrimonio.

Después de trabajar en la agricultura local, Guillermo comenzó a trabajar en los molinos locales, incluyendo Masonite y Louisiana Pacific (LP). Después de su paso por los molinos, Guillermo y Lydia decidieron abrir el Memo's Mexican Deli en 1991, que fue una de las primeras tiendas de abarrotes de estilo mexicano en la zona que ofrecía tortillas frescas y pan dulce a diario. Unos años después, decidió emprender por su cuenta y comenzó un servicio de entrega de productos mexicanos. Atendía principalmente a clientes mexicanos que vivían en campamentos laborales, complejos de apartamentos y parques de casas móviles en el Valle de Ukiah. Se jubiló oficialmente en 2009. Se sentía muy orgulloso de su trabajo y de sus contribuciones a la comunidad. Su dedicación y arduo trabajo sirvieron de inspiración a su familia y a cientos de antiguos clientes. Se le conocía cariñosamente como Don Memo.

Guillermo encontraba una inmensa alegría en ser padre. Le sobreviven sus 4 hijos: Miguel Zazueta, Guillermo Zazueta Jr. (Sofía), Yareli Macías Zazueta y Omar Zazueta (Belinda). Fue un pilar de apoyo y guía para sus hijos, siempre los animaba a perseguir sus sueños, les inculcaba su increíble ética de trabajo y les brindaba amor y apoyo inquebrantable.

Además de sus hijos, Guillermo, o Tata como lo conocían, deja un legado a través de sus 13 nietos: Ayled, Adryan, Omar, Sebastián, Benjamín, Giancarlo, Guillermo, Evan, Camila, Giamani, Maxim, Ezequiel y Joaquín. Su amor y cariño por sus nietos eran evidentes en el vínculo especial que compartía con cada uno de ellos.

Guillermo también fue un hermano querido para sus 16 hermanos y hermanas: Rosalva, Graciela, Emma, Alicia, Guadalupe, Loreto, Delia, Patricia, Gustavo, Ernesto, Emilio, Humberto, Rosendo, Mario, Alejandro, Alberto y Manuel. Sus hermanos y hermanas no solo eran su familia, sino también sus amigos de toda la vida, brindando apoyo y compañerismo a lo largo de su viaje de vida.

Guillermo será recordado por su espíritu amable y generoso, y su dedicación a su familia y comunidad. Fue el primero de su familia inmediata en emigrar desde México y establecerse en el área de Ukiah. Era conocido por ayudar a muchos otros miembros de su familia que emprendieron el viaje desde las rancherías rurales de Sinaloa hasta el condado de Mendocino. La familia Zazueta ahora cuenta con cientos de miembros viviendo en los condados de Lake y Mendocino. Le encantaba viajar de regreso a México para visitar a su familia y amigos. Guillermo disfrutaba de la jardinería, preparar comida para su familia, especialmente para sus nietos, y ser hábil en las tareas del hogar. En los últimos años, se había convertido en un gran fanático del fútbol y se le podía encontrar regularmente apoyando a la Academia de Fútbol del Mendocino College y al equipo de fútbol de Ukiah High, donde juegan sus nietos. Tenía una sonrisa cálida y una naturaleza afectuosa que tocó las vidas de todos los que conocía. Su legado vivirá en los corazones y recuerdos de todos aquellos que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerlo.

El miércoles 31 de mayo a las 2 pm se llevará a cabo un velorio y un Rosario (5 pm) en Eversole Mortuary en Ukiah. Un servicio fúnebre para honrar y celebrar la vida de Guillermo Beltrán Zazueta se llevará a cabo el jueves 1 de junio a la 1 pm en la Iglesia Católica St. Mary, seguido del entierro en el Cementerio de Ukiah. Se invita a amigos, familiares y miembros de la comunidad a unirse para recordar a una persona notable que dejó una huella indeleble en las vidas de quienes lo rodeaban. Después del entierro, se realizará una recepción en el Elks Lodge de Ukiah (1200 Hastings Rd, Ukiah, CA 95482).

La familia de Guillermo desea expresar su más sincero agradecimiento a todos aquellos que han mostrado amor, apoyo y condolencias durante este difícil momento. Su amabilidad y presencia son profundamente apreciadas.

Que Guillermo Beltrán Zazueta descanse en paz eterna, y que su memoria continúe inspirándonos y elevándonos a todos.
