Jacques Pierre Leveille, a brilliant scientist, adventurous spirit, and cherished family man, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, October 23, 2026. Born on February 7, 1951, in Noumea, New Caledonia, to parents Bertand and Yamina Leveille who preceded him in death.
Jacques carried a lifelong curiosity and warmth that touched all who knew him.
Growing up on his small island home in the Pacific Ocean, Jacques moved to the United States to attend college in Massachusetts. He studied at Bristol Community College and Bridgewater State College before earning his doctorate in theoretical high energy physics from Boston University in 1976. During his college years, he met the love of his life, Nancy. They married in August of 1973 and shared a wonderful partnership. Professionally, Jacques enjoyed a distinguished career as a research geophysicist for major companies, including Shell Oil, Hess Corporation, and ION Geophysical, publishing numerous research articles and holding many patents.
Beyond his scientific achievements, Jacques lived an extraordinary life of exploration, traveling all over the world for both work and fun. He cherished playing golf, sailing, and spending time at the beach with his family.
He is deeply missed by his devoted wife, Nancy; his daughter Nicole Leveille and her partner, Patrick Parks; his grandson, William Jacques Leveille Buchanan; his sister Therese Gallois and her husband, Jean Pierre; his niece and nephew, Miriam and Richard Gallois; numerous cousins and extended family members.
When asked about the meaning of life, Jacques answered to “live life to the fullest with values we would always be able to admire.” He invited us all to do the same.
