James “Jim” Brunell Awtrey, 76, died on August 12, 2022 at his home in Potter Valley, California.
James was born December 10, 1945 in Ringling Oklahoma to Forest and Veta Awtrey.
He attended DeAnza High School in El Sobrante, California and continued his education at Contra Costa Junior College in San Pablo, California. James went on to work in fire protection for more than 40 years.
He is survived by his wife Brenda of 53 years, sons Timothy, his wife Lydia, Daniel, his wife Shannon and his daughter Rebecca, preceded in death by his son-in-law Gabriel. He was Papa to seven grandchildren, Samantha, Yan, Brandon, Alex, Courtney, Madden and Adeline. He is also survived by his brother Rick (Donna) Awtrey and sister Debbie (Larry) Long.
His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life’s challenges with a joke and a smile. Despite the pain, Jim stayed strong until the end. He was always available to lend a helping hand. When he could no longer help, he was there to tell you exactly how he thought you should do something and how you were doing it wrong. He wholeheartedly embraced the idea of helping others and making sure he showed his love through his actions. He looked forward to his front porch chats and spending time with his family.
