John Maxwell Heron

John Heron, beloved husband of Paula Burns-Heron, for over 30 years, peacefully passed away at his home in Redwood Valley, CA on October 26, 2023. He was born to Douglas and Barbara Heron on February 7, 1944 in Petaluma, CA.

He was raised and attended schools in Petaluma, CA. In his last year of high school he moved with his Mother to Tennessee and attended Franklin County High School in Winchester, TN graduating in 1963. John returned to Petaluma where he started his trucking company, John M Heron, and ran it for 35 years. When he retired he started his second career driving for Kelleher, Mendocino Forest Products, and McFarland Trucking. In his retirement John would actively play and work with his grandchildren, and loyal dogs, happily teaching them lessons in life. Riding quads was a favorite activity of all grandkids. 

He is preceded in death by his parents Douglas and Barbara Heron and Carleen Heron. He is survived by his loving wife, Paula Burns-Heron and their children Barbara, Doug (Giselle), Liz (Bill), Meghan, Lisa (Perry), Phoebe, Rachael (Daniel), Corrie (Rich), Joseph, Jon (Lynea), Benjamin, 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  John will be missed by all those who loved him. 

A gathering to honor John Heron’s life will be held at the Elks Lodge in Petaluma, Ca. 2105 S McDowell Blvd # A, Petaluma, CA 94954 Dec. 2nd at 11am. Please RSVP to phoebe.urakov@gmail.com
