With heavy hearts we announce that Joyce “Joy” Grey Cagle of Willits, California, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18th 2024, after a brave fight with cancer.

Joy was born on May 14th, 1965 as the only child to Myrtle Thompson and Walter Cagle in Macon, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her mother and father.

After Joy graduated from South West High School, she got her bachelor’s in Macon, Georgia, and continued her studies at Duke’s University, in North Carolina. 

After graduating with a master’s degree in nursing in 1988, she started her first job at the Medical Center of Central Georgia, kickstarting a 30 year nursing career.

Later in life, she went on to receive her degree in Clinical Informatics.

In the year 1994, she met her soulmate George Skinner. Though their life did not continue together, their love for each other never ceased. 

She was always kind to animals and rescued dogs and cats her entire life. She is survived by her beloved dogs Sookie and Bongo, who now reside with George.

She is also survived by Mazzie and Pearl, who now reside with Jo Lee and Mina, respectively.

With her friends she enjoyed biking, kayaking, thrifting, swimming, watching movies and she was especially fond of trees. 

She was survived by her cousins on the east coast and her extensive family of friends near and far. 

Her graveside funeral service is scheduled for Monday, July 29th at 9 am, at the Willits Cemetery District of the Redwoods in 1200 CA-20, Willits.
