Obituary:
Charles Byron Macdonald
Charles (Byron) Macdonald passed away December 18, 2009 in Willits, CA after a short illness. He was born July 4, 1926 in Fort Bragg, CA to Charles William Macdonald and Leonora Elise (Clark). Byron attended Fort Bragg High School until his junior year when his Dad retired and he and his family moved to Comptche, he then transferred to Mendocino High School where he enjoyed track and basketball. One of his early memories was his first day of kindergarten when his mother dropped him off at school and he returned home before she did.
Byron was drafted into the Army right out of high school. He attended basic training at Camp Roberts and was sent to the Philippine Islands after hostilities ceased Kyoto, Japan. He served from 1944 to 1947. After the war he returned home to Comptche where he enjoyed working in the woods, helping his dad around the ranch and working around livestock which turned into his lifelong work.
He married Eleanor Anita Edwards on February 28, 1950 and made their home in Comptche. He worked many years at the El Roble Auction Yard in Ukiah CA. He also hauled livestock to and from other Northern California auctions. He moved to Oregon in the mid 70’s and worked for cattle ranches in Bly and Adel. He enjoyed the last 30 years as the resident caretaker of a cattle ranch in Willits, Ca.
In his earlier years he enjoyed deer hunting in Mendocino County, Modoc County and out of state.
He is survived by his Sons Larry (Judi) Macdonald of Comptche, CA; Lonnie Macdonald (Stefani Galvin) of Las Vegas, NV; and his daughter Anita (Marvin) Wells of Ukiah, CA.
Grandchildren: Lori Macdonald of Ukiah, CA; Julie (Kevin) Smallcomb of Greeley, CO; Lance Macdonald of Healdsburg, CA; Jon Macdonald (Amanda Davis) of Ukiah, CA; Tammy Remstedt Klamath Falls, OR; Clinton Remstedt of Klamath Falls, OR; Lynette Miller (Chad) of Ukiah, CA and Klamath Falls, OR; Ashley and Allina Barkman, Kylie Macdonald all of Las Vegas, NV.
Great Grandchildren: Chelsey and Josh Neese of Ukiah, CA; Katie and Kyndle Smallcomb of Greeley CO; Kyler Kirch, Trevin and Peyton Macdonald of Ukiah, CA; Josie Remstedt (Lucas Dusatko), Chad and Lexi Remstedt Klamath Falls, OR; Mikenzie, Jaycee and Jessie Remstedt Klamath Falls, OR.
Great Great Grandchild: Leela Dusatko of Klamath Falls, OR.
Predeceasing Family: Eleanor Macdonald (Wife) Dustin Wells (Grandson) Guy Remstedt (Grandson)
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 23, 2010 at the Ukiah Garden Café, 1090 South State Street Ukiah, CA. Please join his family and friends for a Hosted Buffet Lunch from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
He will be missed by many friends and family.
