Marilyn Louise Andrews was born in Hollywood Hospital, June 20, 1947 to parents Derrick and Charlene Andrews. She soon moved to Castle Crags State Park where her father began his career as a ranger. She soon moved to Castle Crags State Park where her father began his career as a ranger. Parks she lived in the next 16 years included Big Sur, Armstrong Redwoods, Mt Tamalpais, Mac Kerricher Beach, and Samuel P Taylor. Marilyn attended grade school in Guerneville, Mill Valley, and she eventually graduated from Castlemont High School in Oakland. Marilyn was very gifted and college was completed in 3 years. She attended Cal State Hayward and earned 3 teaching credentials at Sac State and Chico State. (Elementary, special ed, and Spanish). Most of her adult life was spent in Boonville and Mendocino. She loved deer hunting, raising sheep and growing vegetables, and living the country life. Camping in remote areas brought her much joy. When asked recently what was her greatest accomplishment in life, she mentioned the Christian school she established and ran in Boonville at her church, where she taught all 6 grades in one room. Her love of teaching continued, and she commuted to Windsor from Boonville daily one year to teach a Spanish immersion program for children with learning disabilities. Moving to Mendocino in 2000 she taught special ed until she retired from Dana Grey Elementary in Fort Bragg in 2016, which coincided with her falling in love with a wonderful man she met on a dating website, Ralph Salazar.Although she spent her last 9 years in Texas with her beloved husband Ralph, she longed to return to her California redwoods, and was happy to visit her family yearly and help out each summer at vacation bible school at Chapel of the Redwoods in Comptche. Her amusing, quirky sense of humor, with a touch of cynicism was quite “entertaining” to those around her, including her many grand niece’s, grand nephews, and 3 step grandchildren.Marilyn’s many gifts included her compassion for seniors, her love of children, and her extreme generosity to people in need, missionaries, and church camps. Because of her deep faith in God, it was her desire to enable dozens of kids to attend church camp where they could be assured of Gods love and eternity in heaven.“ For God so loved the world that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
