Obituary:
Pauline A. Mattern, an 89-year resident of Ukiah, died Monday, January 18th at the Ukiah Valley Medical Center surrounded by family.
Born in Ukiah in 1926, she spent her childhood in Lakeport and graduated her senior year at Ukiah High School (Class of 1945). While in high school, she worked at the Model Bakery and then at her uncle's grocery store (Johnny's Market), where she met Robert H. Mattern. They were married on May 12, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She continued to work at various places including the 5 & Dime, Demeo's Department Store, and the family-owned local bar "Harold's Club." She was a member of the Moose Lodge and enjoyed camping, traveling, and raising her two daughters.
She was known for her lively, loving spirit, witty sense of humor, incredible Italian cooking, and her beautiful garden.
She is survived by her daughters Barbara Cubberly and husband Don Looney, Shari Brown and husband Dr. S. Mack Brown, her grandchildren Dave Cubberly and wife Maureen, Lisa Schultz and husband Alex, and Eva Brown and husband Jeff Medeiros, great grandchildren AJ, Aaron and Alyssa Schultz, Grant and Ethen Cubberly and numerous nephews and nieces.
Services will be held in the chapel at Ukiah Cemetery at 2:00 PM Friday, January 22, 2016.
