Dorance Hiram Miller
Memorial services for Dorance Hiram Miller of Redwood Valley will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 11 am at Eversole Mortuary. Dorance passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born October 13, 1922 in Hillsboro, Oregon, he has resided in the area for the past 26 years. He served his country in the US Army during WWII in the Pacific area receiving an expert rifleman award. Dorance was a Locomotive Engineer for Western Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads. He was a member of ROTC and the Union Pacific Retirement Club of Stockton and delivered Meals on Wheels. He was most proud of being just short of #1 in seniority on the railroad locomotive engineers list and doing Meals on Wheels beginning in his eighties. He will be remembered as a workaholic and excellent locomotive engineer, operating the California Zepher train during its tenure. He traveled to almost everywhere except Antarctica. Dorance devotedly delivered Meals on Wheels until he could no longer keep up the pace. Favorite quote, “Guess what!”
Dorance is survived by his wife of almost 68 years June Fern (Green) Miller of Redwood Valley, daughters Lynda Oliver of Brentwood, Sue Cochran of Sacramento, son David Miller VA Hospital, Sacramento, grandchildren Teresa Suba of Laytonville, Jennifer Brandon of Laytonville, Laura Hanson of Sacramento, Julee Oliver of Brentwood, Michael Metcalfe of Texas, four great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
Memorial contributions to Meals on Wheels are preferred.
