Obituary:
Jose Mora Jr. (Josef) was born in Ukiah, CA on April 21, 1992 and passed away unexpectedly on January 24, 2021. Josef grew up in Ukiah, and Bullhead City, Arizona, where he attended Dessert Valley School. He returned to California for high school and graduated from California School for the Deaf, Fremont. At the time of his passing he was living in Ripon CA and looking forward to marrying the love of his life, Paige Van Laar. During the time they spent together, they most enjoyed date nights in the City, going out to eat, movie nights, camping trips and mostly their long conversations and walks where they could enjoy the beauty of nature and make plans for the future.
Josef came to know the Lord while visiting a friend’s church in Vallejo, CA. He was passionate about his relationship with the Lord and diligent in his prayers. He and Paige attended both Immanuel CRC in Ripon, and Quail Lakes Baptist Church in Stockton, where there is a vibrant Deaf ministry.
Josef is survived by his fiancé, Paige Van Laar, his mother Christina Hopper, grandparents Linda and Robert Duggin, Uncle Terry Hopper, and sister Cassie Schlutz. His mother remembers a special quote: “Be happy for this moment. This moment in your Life. If you don’t stand firm in your faith, you will not stand up at all.”
From the Mora side of the family he is survived by biological father Jose Mora Benitez and stepmother Senaida Mora, sister Valentina Mora, brother Manuel Dunlap, stepbrother and stepsister Naomi and Joel Garcia, Godfather Israel Bravo and cousin Adela Browning, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Josef was preceded in death by his Godmother Laura Mora Bravo with whom he had a special bond and Aunt Adela Tejeda. He is loved very much by all of the Mora family, who were with him and supported him during the beginning of his journey at a new school for the deaf. They enjoyed every moment they spent with him and will always remember their road trips to Arizona. He will forever be missed, especially his big smile and handsome face.
A memorial service will be held in Ukiah, CA at Legacy Church on February 3, followed by burial at the Ukiah Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Immanuel CRC in Ripon, CA.
