Obituary:
Janet Elizabeth Pexton passed away on March 2, 2018 at the age of 100. Janet was born in San Francisco, California on January 24, 1918. She moved to Santa Rosa in 1947 after her marriage to Ed Pexton. Janet is survived by her daughter Cindy and husband Sal Culcasi, daughter Nancy and husband Park Steiner; grandson Scott Steiner, and granddaughter Sarah Steiner McPheeters and husband Matt; great grandchildren Suzie, Julia, and Calder McPheeters; as well as many nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ed Pexton; her sisters Marion Pontacq and Ruth Campbell, and brother John Falconer III. Janet was raised in San Francisco where she attended Mission High School and obtained her teaching credential from San Francisco State College (now San Francisco State University) and graduated on January 24, 1941. She spent many days swimming at the San Francisco Crystal Plunge Pool and walked across the Golden Gate Bridge the day it opened in 1937. Janet spent many summers in Rio Nido on the Russian River where she met her husband Ed Pexton. She taught elementary school in San Francisco and then in Santa Rosa after she was married. Janet was a member of Beta Sigma Phi in the 60’s and 70’s. She enjoyed playing bridge and belonged to both women’s and couple’s bridge clubs. Golf was her passion and she loved to play with Ed often, in addition to playing on Tuesdays with her gal friends. She played golf until she was 88 years old and told people that she liked playing with her younger friends in their 60s. After Ed passed, Janet moved to Ukiah where she lived near her daughter Nancy. A celebration of her life will be held at the Lone Tree Golf Course, 4800 Golf Course Road in Antioch, California on Saturday April 7, 12:00PM to 4:00PM. Friends and family are welcome. Donations may be made in Janet’s memory to Guide Dogs for the Blind. www.guidedogs.com.
