Obituary:
Guido A. Pronsolino passed away after a long illness on Monday, November 30
at his home in Yorkville. Betty his wife of 61 and one half years was at his side.
He is survived by his children Ron & Jennifer Pronsolino of Yorkville, Janice Pronsolino-Brown of Ukiah and Guy and Sandy Pronoslino of Philo, grandchildren Kristopher Pronsolino, Vanessa and Steven Spacek, Russell Pronsolino and Marci Bobby Norris, great grandchildren, August & Jack Spacek, and Harrison and Shawnee Norris. Also surviving are his brother Angelo Pronsolino & sister Albina Arietta, sisters-in-law Berniece Presley and Freda Smith, Eileen Pronsolino as well as many nephews and nieces. Guido, their fifth child was born October 6, 1926 at the home of his parents John & Teresa Pronsolino on Vinegar Ridge between Philo & Elk.
He attended grade school at Signal Ridge School and Anderson Valley High and graduating in 1944. After graduation at the age of 17 he joined the Navy.
He did his boot camp in San Diego served as a Corpsman at the Naval Hospital in Long Beach, CA until the war ended in 1945. After returning home he attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.
During the summer after his first year at Cal Poly while at his home in
Anderson Valley he was offered a summer job working on the Mailliard Ranch. The summer job lasted 43 years, while there he helped develop a fine wool program with Kate Mailliard and Dr. Wilson form UC Davis.
In the 1970’s he along with his son’s Ron and Guy started Pronsolino Timber Co. They logged selectively on private lands until 1993.
He married Betty Smith on April 4, 1948 and raised their family together.
Guido served on the Anderson Valley School Board, coached Pee Wee
Basketball, was a 4H leader, served on the Mendocino County Fair Board and
was a member of the Mendocino County Wool Growers Association, Mendocino County Farm Bureau and the Redwood Regional Loggers Association. Guido was named Live Stock man of the year in 1997 at the Redwood Empire Fair and in 2000 at the County Fair in Boonville; Ca. He was a member of the Redwood Empire Sheepdog Association; he showed dogs in the 50’s and 60’s.
Guido’s life time love was sheep production and tending to his flock until his death at the age of 83, with the help of his family.
A celebration of Guido’s life will be held Friday, December 4, at 1 PM at the Anderson Valley Fine Arts Building at the fairgrounds in Boonville.
