Obituary:
Gordon Richard “Dick” Royle passed away suddenly on July 17 at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. He was 79 years old.
Dick Royle was born in Berkeley and grew up in Fresno, where he graduated from Fresno High School. He earned a B.A. in Political Science in 1952, and a B.S. in Business Administration in 1958, both from the University of California, Berkeley. From 1952 to 1954, Dick served as a lieutenant in the Army Military Police in the U.S. and Korea. He had a long and distinguished career in the Department of Defense as a Management Analyst at the Presidio in San Francisco and at Fort McPherson outside Atlanta, Georgia.
Upon his retirement in 1988, Dick and his wife Maureen moved to Ukiah. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ukiah, the local chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the Korean War Veterans Association.
Dick loved to play tennis and to hike, and worked five summers at Yosemite National Park as a young adult. He was a loyal Cal alum, an avid reader and follower of world events, and a dedicated fan of tennis and football. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a wise and gentle soul who will be deeply missed by many.
Dick is survived by his wife of 46 years, Maureen, of Ukiah, his daughter Diane, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, his son Jeffrey, resident of The Cedars of Marin and participant in Marin Ventures day program, and extended family in Texas, California and Utah.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 27, at First Presbyterian Church of Ukiah. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in his memory to The Cedars of Marin, P.0. Box 947, Ross, Ca. 94957, or Marin Ventures, 350 Merrydale Road, San Rafael, Ca. 94903
