Obituary

Sammy Mckayo Ilar

February 27, 1976 - September 4, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Sammy Mckayo Ilar "Bub".

Born in Santa Rosa on February 27, 1976, to Sammy Ilar & Sharon Faber. Sammy grew up in Hopland, Ukiah and on the Coast. He graduated from Point Arena High School in 1994. He was known for being a beast on the football field and a friend to all.

He was truly one of a kind and will be remembered most for his incredible sense of humor, big personality, and the laughter he brought wherever he went. He had a special way of making people smile, and to those who loved him, he was simply everyone's favorite brother and uncle.

Sammy was incredibly talented and could fix just about anything. He was especially skilled in home repair and automotive work. His knowledge, resourcefulness, and willingness to lend a hand were just a few of the many things that made him so special. Sammy worked as a maintenance man for many years. One of his favorite things to do was camping and being outdoors.

Sammy also knew how to bring people together through food. His adobo was legendary, the kind everyone looked forward to and no one could quite make it the way he did. At every function you would find Sammy at the BBQ grill.

Sammy's unexpected passing has left an immeasurable hole in our hearts of his family and friends. He left us far too soon, but he also left behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and memories that will continue to be shared for generations.

We will remember him at family gatherings, when we hear a joke we know he would have loved, when something breaks and we wish he were there to fix it, and every time someone has a craving for his adobo.

He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.

Sammy was preceded  in death by his mother Sharon Faber and is survived by his Father Sammy Ilar (Kayte Ilar), his siblings Chris Ilar (Rosie), Jason Ilar, Sharon Rose Ilar-Rackley (Michael), Melanie Ilar (Benji), Staci Ilar (Rafael), John Ilar III, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews.

Forever our brother. Forever our uncle. Forever in our hearts.
