Sandra Westman Mayfield, 89, of Ukiah, California, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026.
Sandra was born on May 15, 1937, in Shelton, Washington, to Theodore August Westman and Wilma Edna (Robinson) Westman. In high school she moved with her family to Eureka, California. Later while attending Humboldt State she met John M. Mayfield. They were married on June 9, 1957, in Eureka and shared 67 years of marriage until John's passing in 2024.
Together they made their home in Ukiah, where they raised three children: Jim, Ted, and Susan. Sandra was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed having family together for holidays, birthdays, dinners out, and other gatherings and took great pride in watching her family grow over the years.
In her early years, Sandra loved bowling, and then later playing tennis with close friends. Also shopping and traveling with her close group of girlfriends and valued the friendships they shared for many years. She was also an accomplished needlepoint artist, knitter, and seamstress. Her handmade Christmas stockings, quilts, sweaters, dresses and other creations have become treasured family keepsakes.
Sandra enjoyed looking her best, wearing beautiful clothes and jewelry, and enjoying extensive travel with her husband and family. Nothing brought her greater happiness than seeing her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren together, surrounded by laughter and love. Many great memories were made with friends and family at “The Big Red House” north of Cleone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mayfield; her parents, Theodore and Wilma Westman; her brother, James Westman; and her sister, Sharon Duskin.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jim and Babbie Mayfield, Ted and Terry Mayfield, and Susan and Matt Hewitt; her grandchildren (7); her great-grandchildren (7); and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Sandra will be remembered for her love of family, her many lifelong friendships, her creativity, and the traditions she helped build over nearly seven decades of marriage.
A graveside service was held in Ukiah with immediate family members.
