Obituary:
HENRIETTA JOSEPHINE STEINKE
Henrietta “Joe” Steinke lived an active 100 years and died peacefully on November 29, 2015 at home with loved ones by her side. Born January 6, 1915, in Devils Lake, North Dakota to Henry and Pearl White, she was the second of their five children. Joe attended area schools and married Roswald Reinhart Steinke in 1933. They farmed near Penn, N.D. where they reared two sons and a daughter. Joe, employed as a switchboard operator, worked from her home for 20 years. Next, she worked for 20 years in the dietary department of Devils Lake Mercy Hospital, moving to Devils Lake in 1973 after the death of her husband. Upon retirement in 1982, Joe moved to Ukiah, California to be near her daughter’s family.
Joe was loved and respected by all her family and friends for her integrity and generosity. She demonstrated her beliefs with contributions to charities, church, friends, and family and came to be known as an “angel in the community”. Joe enjoyed all types of music, dancing, reading, bird watching, cooking, walking, laughing, and getting the “best buy” when shopping.
Joe is survived by her son, Kenton Steinke, his wife Mary Ann, and sons Kent, Mark, and Darren and their extended families all of Colorado; and by her daughter, Beverley Spence, of Ukiah and daughters Monica Ketterling and Erica Dias and their extended families of Sacramento, California; and by daughter-in-law, June Steinke, and her daughter Susan Landon, and son Scott Steinke, all of Billings, Montana; and by sisters Lavonne Bonnie Fried of Newcastle, Wyoming, and Nora Smith of Sun City, Arizona. She is also survived by eleven great grandchildren, Macy, Sidney, Jake, and Luke Ketterling; Emma, Megan, and Ryan Thompson; Mari and Haley Steinke; James and Michael Steinke; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Joe was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother Vernon White, sister Eldora Gessner, son Frederick Steinke, and one grandchild.
A private family celebration of Joe’s life will be held in Sacramento, California on January 6, 2016, what would have been her 101st birthday. Since Joe enjoyed reading and learning, a donation made to the Ukiah library would be an appreciated tribute to her.
Eversole Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
