In Loving Memory of Steven Edward Studer
November 7, 1953- May 28, 2026
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Steven Edward Studer, at the age of 72, after a quick diagnosis of Glioblastoma, Stage 4.
Steve lived a life defined by service, dedication, and love for his community and family. He proudly served his country in the United States Army before beginning an extraordinary 40- year career with the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Department. Throughout his decades of service, Steve earned the respect of his colleagues and the community he faithfully served. The Sheriff’s office was more than a career; it was a second family and a place where he formed lifelong friendships.
Beyond his professional service, Steve was a dedicated volunteer with local Little League baseball for many years. He took pride in knowing the rules of the game, assisting coaches with pitch counts, helping maintain the fields, and supporting the league in countless ways behind the scenes. His commitment ensured generations of local children had a safe and enjoyable place to learn, play, and grow. His love for the game and dedication to the community left a lasting impact on players, coaches, and families alike.
When Steve wasn’t serving his community or coaching young athletes, he could often be found at a racetrack. A lifelong racing enthusiast, he loved the roar of the engines and the thrill of race day. He traveled to tracks whenever he could and shared that passion with family and friends. Racing wasn’t just a hobby—it was one of the many things that brought him happiness throughout his life.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Sherri Studer; his children, Gilbert Studer and his wife Angela, Carrie Ford and her husband Tony, and Kyle Studer and his wife Christine; his cherished grandchildren, Dominic with wife Karina, LeAndra with husband Austin, Alycia, Elliana, Jenna, Wyatt, Marlowe, and Kalea; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Yareli, Kendra, and Kinsley. He is also survived by his brother Larry Studer; sister-in-law Lan; and multiple nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Winifred Studer; his brother, Martin Studer; and his sisters, June Norris and Elizabeth Studer.
Steve’s legacy is one of service, integrity, kindness, and devotion to others. Whether through his military service, his decades in law enforcement, his years supporting youth baseball, or his love of racing and family, he touched countless lives and left the world better than he found it.
Though he is no longer with us, his example, love, and memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life on Sunday, June 14th, 2026, from 11:00am-2:00pm at the Veterans Memorial Building, 293 Seminary Avenue, Ukiah, CA.
If you have a favorite racing shirt, please wear it in honor of the celebration.
The race may be over, and the final inning played, but the memories, lessons, and love Steve shared will live on forever.
