Verna Louise Jacobs

Verna Louise Jacobs, born May 13, 1945 passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Verna is survived by her loving husband Ray Jacobs of Ukiah, sister Sandra Siebert of Santa Rosa, brother Terry Bach of Ukiah, sister-in-law Joyce Jacobs and numerous nieces and nephews.

Verna was a 37 year employee with the County of Mendocino as an Administrative Assistant in the Transportation Department.  She loved her work and was always the first to volunteer to host a party for any occasion and spearheaded numerous retirement parties for County Employees.

Verna shared with husband Ray many hobbies including classic car shows, watching his cowboy action shoots, automobile races (a large thrill was attending the Indianapolis 500 two times) and building their beautiful El Dorado Estates home.  Her favorite love was the 60 cats she and Ray gave homes to during their marriage and also cruising the Panama Canal, all the Caribbean Islands, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexican Riviera and Australia-New Zealand. Many lifetime friends were made on these cruises and they enjoyed sharing them with many Ukiah friends as well. In the late 70’s Verna obtained a Private Pilots license and for a few years loved the thrill of piloting a plane. She enjoyed the fact that when Ray began restoring classic cars that she did a one-up on him finding a PRRFCT7 (1957 Chevy Bel Air) which soon became the highlight of their collection of three classic automobiles. She was a two term President of the Ukiah Early Iron Club and for ten years was either Chair of Co-Chair of the Fabulous Flashback Car Show in Ukiah.

Verna loved holidays and was well known by hundreds in Ukiah for hosting a Christmas Open House for friends and families to visit her “Fairytale Christmas Home”. She would do the inside and Ray the outside and they always enjoyed sharing in wonderful time of year.  Ray and Verna filled their hearts with love and rarely were they seen without the other, as they shared each other hobbies, family and travel.

In 1997 Verna became Executive Director of the Miss Mendocino County Scholarship Program which she expanded on greatly by raising the largest scholarships nationwide and becoming No.1 in California on many occasions. She was proud to have helped young women for many years earn scholarships to help them with college. One of her greatest joys was having Miss Mendocino County and Miss North Coast win the Miss California crown in 2007 and go on to compete in the Miss America Pageant in 2008 placing in the top 8. Verna and husband Ray shared so many happy and memorable occasions with these young women throughout the years. She served as Secretary to the Preliminary Pageant Association of the Miss California organization as well as Assistant Merchandise Director.

Verna will be remembered by her many close friends as the ultimate Hostess.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 3 pm at Ukiah Cemetery.  She will be buried in the Bach-Jacobs family plot.
