Obituary:
Dr. Jens Vinding, MD, JD, FACR, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on June 20, 2016 at the age of 76. He was born December 21, 1939 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He moved to the United States in 1957 where he graduated from Midway High School in just two years in Virginia. After 4 years at Vanderbilt University as an undergraduate, he studied another 4 years at Vanderbilt Medical School, 1 year at Indiana University, and another 4 years residency at Vanderbilt in order to specialize in radiology. Jens became a US Citizen while in medical school and was drafted to serve in the United States Navy following graduation. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander and served during the Vietnam War with the United States Marines at Quantico Virginia. Jens moved his family to Ukiah in 1971 where he provided 40 years of medical care for Lake and Mendocino Counties through Mendocino Radiology as well as at various local hospitals. With 3 kids in high school and a full time medical practice, Jens travelled to law school at night for 3 years in Santa Rosa. He passed the California State bar in 1985. In his spare time Jens was busy creating and maintaining medical practice software. Dr. Vinding retired from his medical practice in 2011. He was a proud sponsor of the Marines Memorial Club in San Francisco and the Vanderbilt Alumni Association.
Jens was known for his wit and wry sense of humor, often times taking positions contrary to others solely for his own amusement. He was an avid jazz fan and collector of jazz music and books. Jens loved technology, and all the advances that came with it. He was often the first with new gadgets and the newest electronics. His favorite activities included programming, reading, electronics, and anything computer related, but most of all he enjoyed being with family. Jens was also proud of the fact that he never took a sick day in all his years of private practice. He is survived by his spouse of 13 years, Anna Vinding. He is also survived by his three children Christopher and his wife Brigette, Michael and his wife Sonya and Lene her partner Kevin. All three children were the result of his marriage with Jette Vinding. Jens is also survived by grandchildren: Danica and Logan; Olivia, Blake, Calvin and Dane; and Majken. He is also survived by his siblings Lone Malast and Mads Vinding as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on July 23 at Barra of Mendocino from 3-5pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to ones favorite charity.
