Ruth I. West

Born on October 24, 1923 in Susanville, California, Ruth grew up in Susanville along with her ten brothers and sisters. After marrying her husband, Earl West, they moved to Oroville, California. Within a couple of years they moved to Ukiah with their two daughters Nina and Joanne. Ruth lived in Ukiah for the next 63 years.
Ruth was a lifelong member of the Ukiah Grange and was a member of a Ukiah TOPS group. She worked in the office of Richard McClintock, M.D. for 42 years until the age of 88. More family than employee, “It was a great run.”
Her biggest love in her life were her children and grandchildren and she was known by grandma first and nana second. She participated in all the activities her grandchildren were in and known by everyone as their biggest supporter.
Ruth passed away quietly surrounded by family at Ukiah Valley Medical Center on April 2, 2016. She was predeceased by her daughter Nina Sands in 1980.
Ruth leaves behind her daughter Joanne Peaslee (Rand Sr.), her four grandsons Jason and Jerrod Sands, Rand (Susie), Lucas (Kris) Peaslee as well as her five great grandchildren, Darcie, Nina, Drew, Zoe and Avery Peaslee.
Ruth also leaves a beloved extended family, Blaine and Cindy Cristando and sons Austin and Tanner.
Ruth believed that family was the most important thing in life and she proved it every day.
A graveside service will held for family and friends at Ukiah Cemetery on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life at the home of her daughter Joanne immediately following – 9767 West Road in Redwood Valley.
