Kenneth Irving Dewell

Memorial services for Kenneth Irving Dewell of Ukiah will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 2 pm at the Ukiah Masonic Lodge. Kenneth passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010.
Born February 14, 1921 in Petersburg, Virginia, Kenneth received an AA degree in stagecraft, attended Mendocino Community College and Maryville College in Missouri. He served in the US Navy during WWII from 1942 to 45 in the Seabees and as a minesweeper. He was a stage manager for the Ice Follies, a business owner, a maintenance worker for Ukiah Unified School District and a bus driver. Kenneth was proud of being stage and lighting manager for numerous Ukiah High operettas and barbershop productions and for his work with the Ice Follies. He was a mason in Virginia, Iowa and California for more than 50 years receiving the Hiram Award and Mason of the Year in 2005 from Ridgewood Masonic Lodge #146 F.A. & M. and a member and former elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Ukiah. He will be remembered for his love and dedication to his family and his dedication to the promotion of theatrical arts in Mendocino County and supporting Masonic organizations in Ukiah and Willits.
Kenneth is survived by his longtime companion, Ruth Lavers, son K.C. Dewell and wife Dawn of Rohnert Park, daughter Linda Adams and husband Glen of Redding, grandchildren Kelly and Kevin and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Helen Campbell Dewell.
Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Masonic Homes of California are preferred.

Ken was my Uncle, and was an inspiration to me. Ken set an example as a family man and sacrificed for many years to take care of his Mother. I will miss Ken, and he lives on in my heart and memories. Deepest condolences to KC and Linda and their families.
